I claimed “Porn for Women” under the impression that it might be amusing for this blogger, as a gay man, to review a book aimed directly at straight women.  Perhaps ignorantly, I thought that the commonly held stereotype of heterosexual women and homosexual men having intrinstic commonalities might make for an interesting review.  I figured that at the very least, I could give an outsiders perspective on this book.  After having “read” it however, I’m left a little annoyed.

“Annoyed why?” you ask.

Annoyed because the above paragraph contains more prose and composition than this entire, 90 page book.

Annoyed because my man happily does all the things depicted in this book (if I ask him) and it makes him neither more nor less sexually appealing to me in any way.

Annoyed because the idea of an image of a man vacuuming with a “humorous” caption beside him is about as disagreeable (not to mention unfunny) as a poster of a cat dangling from a clothesline with the obnoxious “Hang in there, baby!” sprawled across him.

I have an idea.  Look at the poster below and slap your knees in a fit of tear-enducing laughter (if this laughter feels unnatural or forced, this book isn’t for you).

  1. Not all of us ladies get a sexual charge out of a man pulling clothes out of the dryer. The turn-ons come in the form of Q acting goofy and making me laugh. And telling me I have great hair is always a bonus. 🙂

As for reading material, my favorite example of “girl porn” is a copy fo the spring Coach catalog. There’s always something pink in there.

    I guess I’m an odd bird…

  2. It’s funny to those of us who are stuck with a guy who doesn’t see dirt and has no interest in doing any housework, whatsoever. If I ask my husband to vacuum, empty the dishwasher, etc., I’m a henpeck. It sucks. But, I agree that the book is gimmicky.

  3. Great review. Makes me glad I didn’t choose that one.

  4. Why would you review a book geared to woman in the first place? You new in advance you would disagree!

  5. Hmmm…blupainted – you might be right.

I’ll remember that next time I consider reading a book geared towards black people…or perhaps the disabled. :s

Just because I’m not a woman doesn’t mean I won’t agree by default. Read the review’s first paragraph again please…carefully.

  6. […] seem to be having a run of bad luck with my MiniBook Expo selections […]
